Capcom has officially announced that they’re working on a new entry in the Resident Evil<\/em> franchise during their CAPCOM NEXT – Summer 2024<\/a> stream.<\/p>\n

The big news dropped right towards the end of Capcom’s stream as a “one more thing” announcement. The short, interview-style video featured director K\u014dshi\u00a0Nakanishi saying the following:<\/p>\n

We’re making a new\u00a0Resident Evil<\/em>. It was really difficult to figure out what to do after [Resident Evil<\/em>]\u00a07<\/em>. But I found it, and to be honest it feels substantial. I can’t share any details just yet, but\u00a0 I hope you’re excited for the day I can.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

While it is not certain he’s talking about Resident Evil 9<\/em> (after all, it could be another side entry in the series), Nakanishi mentioning the difficulty of figuring out “what to do after 7<\/em>” seems like a clear indication of him talking about a much-awaited new entry in the main series. Resident Evil Village<\/em> was released in 2021<\/a> (and has just recently passed 10 million copies sold<\/a>).<\/p>\n

Nakanishi was the lead designer on RE5,<\/em> and the director on Mercenaries 3D<\/em>, RE Revelations 1<\/em>, and RE7<\/em>. He also discussed how this new RE<\/em> title was conceived after working\u00a0on RE7<\/em>.<\/p>\n
